I. List of Control room operator duties:
  1. Perform duties allowed under the license held per Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and Mass. General Law, Chapter 146. Maintainlicense requirements.
  2. Supervise the operation of the combined cycle plant. Coordinate  operations with the Electric, Fuel and Steam customers and maintain safe, efficient and dependable operation of the plant and systems as directed by the Plant Manager.
  3. Conducts routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; supports corrective      maintenance efforts on selected equipment when property trained or supervised.
  4. Maintain a thorough knowledge of  all plant systems, operating and emergency response procedures and the ability to execute procedures and equipment when necessary and access the appropriate plant manuals.
  5. Off-load plant chemicals and oil  adhering to all plant safety guidelines
  6. Off-load deliveries to the plant adhering to fork truck training and safety guidelines
  7. Maintain a thorough knowledge of plant environmental parameters and operate within those parameters at all times.
  8. Perform plant start-up, shut-down and equipment operation on the Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and all auxiliary equipment in accordance  with operating instructions and procedures.
  9. Makes routine rounds and inspections of the plant, (inside and outside) to ensure proper running of the plants main and auxiliary equipment and systems.
  10. Receive and respond to electrical, steam and fuel dispatcher’s orders and requests.
  11. Update, maintain and review required plant logs and records on a continuous basis, precisely and accurately. Utilize company electronic mail system and other software programs effectively.
  12. Control, monitor, record and chart plant performance and variances via computerized monitoring programs and other plant instrumentation.
  13. Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  14. Identify and diagnose process problems and adjust/correct within skill capabilities.
  15. Test, monitor and document water chemistry per written guidelines to maintain proper steam quality and boiler chemistry.
  16. Assist in the training of new operators as required and in the training and development of Assistant  Plant Operators.
  17. Successfully complete company sponsored training courses and training and qualification programs as required. Ensure plant and equipment is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
  18. Safely operate plant equipment  including trucks, forklifts and direct unloading of off-hour deliveries.
  19. Monitor plant security utilizing systems provided.
  20. Insure accuracy of submitted  defective equipment reports.
  21. Insure proper “Lock-out/Tag-out” procedures and other safety procedures are followed in compliance with the      PurEnergy safety manual. 
  22. Support maintenance and operations activities as required, including assisting in the testing and maintenance of systems and equipment. Complete preventive maintenance work orders when needed.
  23. Reports directly to and seeks advice, counsel, guidance and direction from the Operations &Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager concerning all assigned duties.
  24. Effectively communicates information to supervision and fellow operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the conditions of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
  25. Gives direction to maintenance personnel on matters pertaining to plant operations and gives direction to Assistant Plant Operators.
  26. Develops and maintains harmonious working relationship with personnel and employees of other companies with      whom direct contact is required.
II. List of Control room operator qualifications
  1. High School  diploma or equivalent, 5 years experience in the power generation or related field.  Two or more years of  college or trades school desirable.
  2. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  3. Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineer's license.
  4. Commonwealth of Massachusetts Grade II Industrial Wastewater Operators License or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  5. Knowledge of  power plant equipment such as motors, pumps, boilers, turbines, generators, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, cooling towers, pollution control equipment (i.e. dust suppression, bag house, scrubber, selective catalytic reduction unit), AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems, etc.
  6. Basic understanding of fundamental principles of mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and metallurgy.
  7. Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, schematics, and logics.
  8. Knowledge of power plant safety, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, heavy equipment operations, etc.
  9. Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plant equipment as well as basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, rigging equipment and other implements.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication
  11. Ability to work at heights and on ladders amid constant noise and vibration
  12. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in high noise and/or hot and cold temperature extremes
  13. Ability to work in proximity to high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment and in cramped and/or confined conditions requiring overall flexibility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, with occasional heavy lifting
  14. Ability to work occasionally with toxic chemicals including, but not limited to, solvents, acids, and caustics
  15. Ability to work rotating shifts, working on feet for 12 hour periods, work overtime and work weekends and holidays.
  16. Sufficient physical strength to operate manual valves and sufficient physical endurance for repetitive motions, such as manual valve operation, operating heavy pneumatic wrenches, and barrel moving
  17. Ability to wear a respirator, hardhat, hearing and eye protection
  18. Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  19. Ability to work in confined spaces
  20. Work outside in hot or cold, wet or dry weather
  21. Work alone and in an unsupervised environment
